Retired airman honored before passing

Edwin Simpson, pictured here receiving a pinning for 20 years of military service from VFW Phillips Post 5778 Chaplain Doug Moquin on Oct. 27, passed away on Nov. 8 at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips. Simpson, a 1954 Phillips High School graduate, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-74. He traveled the world, including service in Thailand and Vietnam, with a specialty in base operations training. He earned an Air Force Commendation Medal among other honors. Simpson returned to Phillips, where he served the community in law enforcement until retiring in 1999. His law enforcement service included the Phillips Police Department and Price County Sheriff’s Office. Marshfield Clinic Home Health & Hospice has a joint effort to pin veterans in their final days.
