This year marks the 140th year since Price County was formed, March 3, 1879, made up of land that had formerly been part of Chippewa and Lincoln counties.

The newly formed county was named after William Thompson Price, a politician and entrepreneur with numerous logging crews and camps located at the headwaters of the Chippewa and Flambeau watershed. In fact, it was Price’s crews who built the original dam at Round Lake on the Pike Lake Chain in 1876.
