Kathryn Helen Rein was born at home in Glidden, WI on February 27, 1929 to Otto Ernest Sr. and Laura (Schwilk) Ernest. Kathryn went home to the Lord on March 31, 2022. Katie grew up surrounded by 9 brothers and 8 sisters. On June 24,1946, Kathryn was united in marriage to Dennis L. Rein in Glidden in the midst of a historic flood which meant that the wedding cake never made it to the wedding. Following that memorable day, they were blessed with 5 children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Katie was a proud homemaker all her life and fulfilled that role by baking, knitting, crocheting, quilt making and more. She was an avid blueberry picker and was known for her delicious blueberry kuchen and her famous “Katie cake.”
Kathryn’s faith in the Lord was central to her life. She read her Bible and prayed daily. She was a lifelong member of Most Precious Blood Parish in Glidden and was dedicated to serving her church and community. She was a past president of St. Anne’s Sodality, lay leader of prayer, a reader, Communion minister and active church volunteer. She also served the Glidden community by volunteering at the senior meal site for over 25 years.
