The Chequamegon High School girls’ cross-country team won the Div. 3 South Shore Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 26, and the Screaming Eagles placed second in the boys' meet. The Chequamegon girls’ and boys’ teams will compete in the WIAA State Cross Country Championships this weekend.
"Heading into the meet, we felt very confident that our girls were the top team and if we took care of our own races we would punch our ticket to state," Screaming Eagles' coach Mary Patterson said. "But the girls still had to run the races, and from the minute the gun went off, every one of these girls put themselves into a position for their team to accomplish our goal. The girls were not only crowned sectional champions with 49 points, they crushed it 40 points ahead of second place. I could not be more proud of these girls and how they brought it up there to get our girls' team back at the state meet."
