The Chequamegon High School girls' cross-country team, ranked 14th in the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Div. 3 rankings, placed fifth in Div. 3 at the Smiley Invitational in Wausau on Saturday, Sept. 21.

"The Smiley meet is the halfway mark of the season and is always a big test as we see some of the top teams in the state," Screaming Eagles' coach Mary Patterson said. "The start is bigger than the state meet, so it definitely puts the kids in a big-meet atmosphere. I felt our kids ran some good races on the day and were working hard. We continue to see improvements and are moving in the right direction. I feel we are on the cusp of breaking out this season."
