The Catawba-Kennan Lions Club members will host the annual Lumberman's Day events June 8. Events go from 8 a.m. through the evening hours at the Catawba Village Park.
The 4K Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m., with registration opening at 8 a.m.
Following the 10:30 a.m. parade, most events will take place at the Catawba Park. These include the barbecued chicken dinners prepared by Catawba-Harmony Volunteer Fire Department members, sawing contests, girls' softball and kids games, horseshoe, volleyball, and bean bag tournaments, disc golf, live music and the queen coronation along with food and beverage booths.
There are four young women seeking to be crowned as the 2019 Catawba Lumberman's Day Queen; they are Sabrina Bodenhagen, Brandi Drexler, Kylie Edinger, and Cheyenne Taylor. The winner will be the one who sells the most raffle tickets by the deadline on June 8.
The Jump River Historical Museum will be open for the first time this year on June 8 and people are welcome to stop in and view the various displays especially the latest exhibit titled "The Tools of the Trades" exhibit. The museum, located on U.S. Highway 8 next to the Catawba Municipal Building is also scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays June 22, July 13, July 22, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. Live music will be performed by The Whirlwinds (noon to 4 p.m.); Loren Wanish as Elvis Presley (4-5:30 p.m.); and Twisted Whisker (6-10 p.m.).
The event is sponsored by the Catawba-Kennan Lions Club and proceeds from the raffle ticket sales and some of the day's other events help fund numerous Lions Club projects at the local, district and state levels.
