Oct. 6, 1937 - Oct. 24, 2019
On Oct. 24, 2019, the world lost an amazing and kind soul following a cruel struggle with Alzheimer’s. Patricia “Pat” (nee Newton) Michalski was born on Oct. 6, 1937 to Arthur F. and Patricia A. (nee Yowell) Newton in Winfield, Kansas. Pat was raised in Pueblo, Colorado and Colorado Springs until the family settled in Alamosa, Colorado, where she attended high school and graduated from Adams State College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Pat met her beloved husband, Eugene, while employed as a teacher at the United States Army installation at Fort Carson, Colorado. Eugene and Pat were married on June 20, 1964 at St. Anthony’s Church in Park Falls, after which they settled permanently in Colorado where she taught for Adams 12 Five Star Schools at McElwain Elementary in Thornton, Colorado.
Her husband Mitch preceded her shortly before her own passing. Pat is survived by her son, Dr. Daniel Scott Michalski and her son-in-law, David Paul DeVito, of Arlington, Virginia and by her eldest son, Anthony Wayne Michalski, her daughter-in-law Kristina (Plummer) Michalski, and two grandchildren, Nicholas Christian and Emily Madeline Marie of Parker, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Arthur Newton, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and former students whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Funeral mass for Eugene and Pat was held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at the Spirit of Christ Catholic Church in Arvada, Colorado. Internment followed at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army, the All Veteran’s Honor Guard, and the Honor Bell Foundation.
