Matthew “Matt” A. Timmers, age 83, of Medford, a former Price County resident, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past four days.
He was born on March 29, 1936 in Kennan. He attended Four Corners Elementary School in Catawba and was a 1954 graduate of Phillips High School. After his education, he was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1955-57 in Korea. After the military, he worked in Milwaukee for a period of time and worked for John Mauer Roofing of Marshfield. In 1959, he moved to Kennan and farmed. On May 28, 1960, he married Diana Rose Makovsky at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Catawba. While farming, Matt worked at Norco Windows in Hawkins and for 31 years at Blount, Inc. in Prentice until retirement. In 1997, they moved to Medford where he worked at Circle of Faith and built utility sheds. He enjoyed raising beef and spending time with his family was his life.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, and the Catholic Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Timmers of Medford; children: Deborah (Dan) Robinson of Spread Eagle, Todd (Lori) Timmers of Phillips, Deanna (Scott) Hilgart of Park Falls, and Donald (Heather) Timmers of Medford; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; his siblings: Clifford Timmers of Kennan, Patricia (Ed) Dowden of Owen, Marion (Tony) Groothousen of Tony, Mildred Kennedy of Delafield, Janet (Bill) Griglak of Ladysmith, and Lorraine (David) Baratka of Phillips; brother-in-law, Ron Runnheim of Kennan; and son-in-law, John Nelson of Phillip.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamara Nelson in 2012; his sister, Florence Runnheim; sister-in-law, Rosalie Timmers; brother-in-law, Adrian Kennedy; and his parents, Mathias and Florence (Jansen) Timmers.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 11 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dan Jr. and Dustin Robinson, Jesse Hilgart, Jared and Tyler Nelson, Justin, Ryan, Jacob and Blake Timmers. Military rites were performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. He was buried in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Holy Rosary School in Medford.
