Mary Ann Bejcek, formerly of Phillips, passed away peacefully at the Friendly Village Nursing Home in Rhinelander on Sept. 2, 2019 at the age of 95. Mary was born on March 23, 1924, in Emery to John and Ann Simurdiak. She married Steve Krizak in August 1950. After his passing she married Ed Bejcek in June 1992.
She loved to fish taking many trips to Canada to catch the big ones. Gardening, sewing, completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, polka dancing and playing cards were her favorite activities. She enjoyed baking kolaches and preparing meals for her family. She was also active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with volunteer work, working on the farm and raising four children.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Simurdiak; her husbands, Steve Krizak and Ed Bejcek; and 10 siblings. Mary is survived by one sister, Frances “Dolly” Petruzalek of Phillips; four children: Karen (Bob Turnquist) of Land O’Lakes, Barbara (Jerry Bock) of Three Lakes, Steve Krizak (Peggy) of Luck and Cathy (Jeff Mitchell) of Rothschild; 10 grandchildren, including: Eric Turnquist of Ironwood, Michigan, Alan (Erin) Turnquist of Houghton, Michigan, Joel (Jenny) Bock of Austin, Texas, Ryan (Jamie) Bock of Three Lakes, Carrie (CJ) Radtke of Big Sky, Montana, Lisa (Kyle) Patrick of Rib Lake, Steve Krizak of Milwaukee, Jennifer Krizak of Luck, Joseph (Azalea) Krizak of Luck, Molli Mitchell of New Haven, Connecticut, and Carli Mitchell of Wausau. She also has 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., prior to the 11 a.m. Mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Phillips on Sept. 14, with Father Lourdu Raju Madanu celebrating the funeral Mass. Interment will be in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Phillips Public Library in Mary Bejcek’s name.
