Karen J. Pippenger, age 74, of Phillips, passed away on Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. Karen was born on June 21, 1945, in Emery to the late William and Violet (Sheets) Dunbar. She was married to Robin Pippenger on July 20, 1963; he passed away in 2015.
Karen grew up in the Town of Emery, graduating from Phillips High School in 1963. She was employed at Pleasant View Nursing home for 17 years and later worked at the Aspirus Regency House-CBRF as a caregiver for 10 years. Karen enjoyed taking care of people, whether substitute cooking in the high school or working part-time at a daycare. In her younger years, she played on the softball league and was a talented accordion player. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Phillips. Karen enjoyed family fishing vacations in Siren, and loved watching wildlife around her home. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her two sons: Jay E. (Patty) Pippenger of Wausau, and Karl R. (Amy) Pippenger of Phillips; one daughter, Kathleen (Ralph) Clemens of Phillips; her brother, Lonnie (Marge) Dunbar of Prentice; and her sister-in-law, Darlene Dunbar of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Karen is further survived by her grandchildren: Kimberly Clemens, Kristine (Timothy) Sousek, Jacob Pippenger, Eli James Pippenger, and Hannah Pippenger.
She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Violet; her husband, Robin; her grandson, Brandon Pippenger; one sister, Linda Darlak; two brothers: William Dunbar, and Gary Dunbar.
Memorial services for Karen Pippenger were held on Aug. 17 at First Baptist Church of Phillips. Pastor Jason Enderle officiated.
