Janis M. Straetz

Nov. 27, 1954 - June 18, 2019

Janis Mary Straetz, age 64, of Mapleton, affectionately known as “Grammy,” passed away on June 18, 2019 at A.R. Gould Hospital following a brief illness. Born on Nov. 27, 1954, in Ashland, she was the third of four born to John “Junior” and Verna Pohl.

She graduated from Glidden High School in 1973. That year, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Nicholas Straetz and then became a mother to three beautiful children.

This June 2nd was their 46th wedding anniversary. Janis spent nearly all of her adult life as a homemaker a full-time mother and subsequently a full-time grandmother.

Her hobbies included reading, bird watching, and traveling, especially cruises on the Caribbean. But the most joy in her life came from spending time with family, and most especially her seven grandchildren. She took care of them, spoiled them, and loved watching their sporting events and other activities. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Verna Pohl.

She is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas; daughter, Melissa Salter (Brandon) of Enterprise, Alabama, and their children, Ethan, Logan, and Colson; her son, Nathan Straetz (Jessica) of Mapleton and their children, Emily and Benjamin; and her son, Jason Straetz of Saco and his children Colin and Ryan. She is also survived by her siblings: Randy Pohl (Marion), Teri Bebeau (Roger), and Carla Crom (Jerry), all of Glidden. She is survived by her father-in-law John Straetz of Glidden; sister-in-law, Amy Gorney (Dale) of South Milwaukee; Michael (Renee) Straetz of Ferguson, Missouri, and Jennifer Kesler (Michael) of Germantown. Also surviving her are many loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A graveside service will be held at Most Precious Blood Cemetery in Glidden at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the IBC (Inflammatory Breast Cancer) Research Foundation PO Box 2805, West Lafayette, IN 47996 in memory of Janis would be greatly appreciated.
