Eugene “Mitch” Matthew Michalski left this earth on Oct. 23, 2019, yet will always be in our hearts. He was born Jan. 13, 1938 to Matthew and Lillian (nee Hilgart) Michalski in Park Falls. Mitch graduated from Lincoln High School in Park Falls in 1956 and continued his schooling at Superior State College and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He met his beloved wife Patricia (“Pat”) while stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado during his service in the United States Army. Eugene and Pat were married at St. Anthony’s Church in Park Falls on June 20, 1964, after which they settled in Colorado.
Eugene attended the school of television at DeVry University and was employed as a television engineer with KBTV and KUSA in Denver for approximately 40 years.
His wife Patricia followed him shortly after his own passing. He is survived by his son, Dr. Daniel Scott Michalski and his son-in-law, David Paul DeVito, of Arlington, Virginia, and by his eldest son, Anthony Wayne Michalski, his daughter-in-law Kristina (nee Plummer) Michalski, and two grandchildren, Nicholas Christian and Emily Madeline Marie of Parker, Colorado. He is also survived by sisters Marlys Jehn of Park Falls and Sharon Bay (Bill) of Cumberland, Wisconsin, in addition to many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Lillian, in 1978 and 1998, respectively, as well as his brother-in-law, John Jehn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association.
Funeral mass for Eugene and Pat was held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at the Spirit of Christ Catholic Church in Arvada, Colorado. Internment followed at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army, the All Veteran’s Honor Guard, and the Honor Bell Foundation.
