May 7, 1947 - June 17, 2019
Donald E. Bucheger, age 72, of Glidden, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 17, 2019. He was born on May 7, 1947 in Park Falls, the son of Leo and Dorothy Bucheger. Don’s early life and schooling were in Glidden. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served one tour of duty in Vietnam. He spent many years in other parts of the country, but always thought of Glidden as home.
Don attended UW-Superior after being discharged from service and majored in art. He was a mason by trade and left his artistic mark on many area homes with the beautifully unique fireplaces that he designed and built.
Although Don lived a simple life with little need for material possessions, his love of family and connection with nature were what gave him pleasure. He seemed to have a second sense with animals, whether it was with horses, dogs, or cats, and animals also sensed that connection.
Don will be sadly missed by his loving mother, Dorothy Wolf; five siblings: Sherry (Bob) Reischel, Bunny Pichler, Kathy (Ken) Schmidt, Sandy (Tim) Kempf, and Pat Bucheger; as well as his 10 special nieces and nephews: Rob, Jenni, Ryan, Jessie, Angie, Aaron, Austin, Jason, Kristin, and Alex; and 19 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Bucheger in 1997. Don will also be missed by his sidekick (cat), Igor.
There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Don’s Life was held on Saturday, June 22, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, officiated by Father Dean Buttrick. Interment was at the cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the Glidden VFW Post.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Glidden Historical Society in Don’s name.
The Novitzke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
