Corinne “Mickey” Alma Hoppe, age 85, of Butternut, passed away on Aug. 21, 2019. She was born Sept. 23, 1933, in Fifield to Leonard and Karen (Knutson) Stein. After graduating as the valedictorian of Fifield High School in 1951, she attended the Gale Institute in Minneapolis and then worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in Milwaukee. In 1953, she married Jack Hoppe and the couple made their home in Butternut, where both worked at Hoppe’s Market and raised their family. Mickey and Jack purchased the store from his parents in 1975, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 2000. Hoppe’s Market provided custom butchering and meat cutting services, deer processing, smokehouse meats, and groceries to the Butternut area for a total of 58 years.

During her life, Mickey was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a dedicated volunteer for the local election board. She was a longtime Catholic catechist and a member of the Christian Ladies at Immaculate Conception Church. Mickey enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, playing cards, reading, dancing with her husband, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and loved challenging games and puzzles. She valued faith, family, and education. Mickey was a selfless caregiver of her husband in his final years.

She is survived by her eight children: David (Lois) Hoppe, Barbara (Bob) Gierman, Mary (Jim) Killinger, Jane (Jeff) Martin, Daniel (Diane) Hoppe, Jim (Denise) Hoppe, Sara (Eddie) Peterson, and Susan (Eric) Miller; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Manny (Roz) Stein.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack; her five sisters: Betty Murnik, Dorothy Peters, Mary Szymik, Arlene Hawley, and Tudi Gunderson; her brother, Bobby Stein; and her great grandson, Leo Killinger.

A visitation and funeral Mass was held on Aug. 26 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara officiated, assisted by Deacon Bob Schienebeck. A private burial was held.

The Novitzke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
