John Shest, 21, was found deceased, partially buried in the snow south of the Village of Gilman Thursday afternoon, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department. His body was located by Taylor County Sheriff’s Deputies searching the area again after Shest was last seen at the Corner Store in Gilman on foot on Feb. 24.
Shest was originally reported missing when he walked away from the Phoenix House, a mental health services facility in Gilman Feb. 24. Law enforcement searched the area but were unable to locate the man. After the Corner Store sighting, no new information became available to law enforcement.
“Based on his location it is believed Shest had walked down the railroad tracks leading out of the village in an attempt to be undetected,” stated a Friday press release from Taylor County Sheriff Larry Woebbeking.
The incident remains under investigation but no foul play is suspected.
