IRON RIVER – There has been a lot of talk in the last few years about community solar farms in the Chequamegon Bay area. As of this week, that talk is walking.

As a result of strong customer and member interest, both Xcel Energy and Bayfield Electric Cooperative (BEC) are now offering subscriptions to community solar farms, or gardens, as Xcel calls them. Over the next month both utility providers will be hosting a series of meetings in the Chequamegon Bay area to enlist subscribers and also explain the costs, the paybacks and other details regarding community solar farms.
