The Mooselips Poetry Jam is a poetry writing competition and a featured event of the Namekagon Art & Music Festival on July 5th in downtown Seeley. All ages are welcome to compete, and there are separate prize categories for youth, adults and songwriters. A panel of judges will score each reader on use of their words and on their poem quality and presentation. Audience response is also a factor, so competitors are encouraged to bring a cheering section. There will be cash awards for top prizewinners.
Competitors are asked to contribute $1 and bring along their writing implement of choice. They should check-in at the Lendved Headwear tent on the festival grounds. They’ll receive three assigned words at sign-up. Writing commences at noon and participants have an hour to craft a poem of any style which should be under three minutes in length. The only “rule” is that the poem must contain the three assigned words. The read-off portion of the event is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Freight Station Theater. Winning poems in each category will later be read on the Festival Main Stage.
