William John “Bill” Chingo, age 80, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, in Duluth, MN. He was born March 4, 1939, in Ashland, the son of Julius and Ann (Foris) Chingo.
In 1957, he graduated from DePadua High School. On June 25, 1960, he married Judith Barany, in Ashland. From 1957 to 1960, he sailed on the Great Lakes for Columbia Transportation. Bill worked for the James River Paper Mill from 1960 to 1996 and retired as the assistant superintendent of the paper machines. He was an active member of the Ashland Elks, Knights of Columbus, and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic
Church. Bill loved and cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren. His love for the outdoors was immeasurable, as his hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at his cabin with family and friends. Bill lived life to the fullest and always left a memorable impression on the lives of others and he will always be remembered as being kind, fun loving, hardworking, and a man of great character.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judith Chingo, Ashland; three children, Scott (Lynn) Chingo, Ashland, Brenda (Tim) Wartman, Schaumburg, IL, and Todd (Dawn) Chingo, Ashland; six grandchildren, Mathew Chingo, Kayla and Brooke Wartman, and Jesse, Blake, and Sami Chingo; two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Lucy Chingo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerome Chingo; and a sister, Beverly Adamiec.
A mass of Christian burial will be held 12 Noon on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland, with Father Jerome D’Souza officiating. Interment will take place in the St. Agnes Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, on Friday, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland.
