The Ashland Oredockers hockey team improved to 9-6-1 with a healthy run of victories, going 3-1 over four days from Jan. 13-17 with victories over Spooner, away on Friday, Jan. 13, Mora at home on Saturday, Jan. 14, and Barron away on Monday, Jan. 16, before dropping a tough match 4-3 to the Hayward Hurricanes at home on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Against the Hurricanes the ‘Dockers furiously battled back from a 4-0 deficit to find the net three times in less than four minutes in the third period from 12:53 — 16:05 but could get no closer from that point. Senior Gabe Kivisto scored two goals for Ashland, while senior Ty Obey added the other. The Oredockers traveled to Park Falls last night, Jan. 19, to face 0-5 Chequamegon in a game played too late for deadline and one in which Ashland may have expected to secure a win to maintain its top place among Wisconsin Independent hockey teams.
