Drummond junior pitcher Emily Kinnunen has been on a state-captivating tear in 2022, as displayed by her outstanding pitching and hitting over four games from May 5 — 7. Kinnunen pitched 23 total innings against Flambeau, Ashland, Spencer and Stratford, giving up no earned runs and just three hits over the four games that included a seven-inning no-hitter and a four-inning perfect game, striking out 59 of 78 batters she faced.
In addition, Kinnunen hit 11 for 15 with five doubles, two home runs and 13 runs batted in. By virtue of her heavy lifting, Kinnunen was nominated along with four other Wisconsin high school athletes playing baseball, softball, golf and soccer for the Hometown Ticketing athlete of the week. The award highlights athletes who have had remarkable weeks in their respective sports. Led by Kinnunen, Drummond sat at 9-3 on the season Wednesday with games against winless Washburn and Butternut/Mercer (6-6) remaining.
