Washburn referendum

Washburn City Council members are considering placing a tax-increase referendum before voters at the spring election. The tax hike would hire two emergency medical technicians to help alleviate personnel shortages being experienced by the service.

Washburn City Administrator Scott Kluver fears the day when someone calls the city’s ambulance service and nobody answers the call.

“We are not able to adequately staff our ambulance service with paid, on-call staff, meaning personnel who only get paid when they go on a run,” Kluver said. “There are not enough people that are willing to contribute their time and energy to do that anymore.”
