This time around we have been dealt a cold and grey November. It appears winter came a bit earlier than usual, although you can never tell about this month. Winter can come anytime it wants to, of course, and November is all about change, and that means a change to the cooler side. Forget about summer and fall. We are well into November now.

As Larry Weber, one of the Duluth newspaper’s nature writers recently showed us, these days when taking a little drive to see our region’s roadside blooms we find the open pods of milkweeds with their flat brown seeds, each attached to its billowing white threads. These devices form a little parachute eager to catch a breeze and take the seed on a ride, completing its birthing journey.
