An Ashland man accused of pouring gasoline on his former girlfriend and setting her on fire was ordered Tuesday to stand trial in Ashland County court.
Eugene J. Stumbaugh, 53, is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, domestic abuse as a repeat offender and arson as well as two misdemeanor bail jumping charges.
He is accused of pouring gasoline on the bed of Sherry Hanson and setting it on fire in July, holding a pillow over her head while the bed burned.
In a preliminary hearing held entirely via telephone link, Iron County Circuit Court Judge Patrick J. Madden heard testimony from a pair of Ashland police officers before ruling there was substantial reason to believe that Stumbaugh had committed a felony in Ashland County.
Madden then set the arraignment for May 8 at 3:15 p.m.
