Research Vessel Kiyi

The USGS Research Vessel Kiyi is moored for the winter at its dock facility near the former Soo Line Oredock. A study released Feb. 10, 2020, finds that a $8 million research facility at the foot of the dock would be "financially feasible" if tenants and researchers could be identified.

A long-discussed science center built on Ashland’s waterfront could cost millions to construct but could generate many times that in local economic impact, according to a study released this week.

The study compared how much a Lake Superior Science Center would cost and how much it would benefit the area if it were built instead of housing or commercial development along Chequamegon Bay’s shores.
