Three friends of the woman who was found dead of gunshot wounds at her Stone Lake home April 2 described her as a kind person who would help anyone, a woman who had a hard life but always tried to rise above her circumstances.
Cary Elkin originally was from Bemidji, Minnesota, and studied at Kaplan University to become a paralegal. She lived in the Albertville area west of Minneapolis, and while living there met Timothy Elkin. The two were married and moved to Spooner, where Elkin’s mother lived, and after they were married, the two obtained custody of Cary’s two sons — Brandon and Robbie. One of Elkin’s sons is currently serving in the military.
