sand pit

A county committee rejected a proposal to create a new gravel mine on a 40-acre tract about 2,000 feet from Hart Lake in the Pike Lakes chain of lakes, colored red. Landowners persuaded the committee that the gravel pit would have disrupted the peacefulness of the area and that it would violate zoning and planning regulations.

South Shore Sand and Gravel President Ralph Frostman is disgusted by the Bayfield County Planning and Zoning Committee’s rejection of his permit to open a new gravel mine in the town of Iron River.

Frostman intended to develop the sand and gravel pit about 2,000 feet east of Hart Lake, but was unanimously denied by the county committee that followed the unanimous rejection by Iron River Town Board members.
