Bayfield County Circuit Court Judge John Anderson presides over a three-day trial late in May at the courthouse in Washburn. The county was the first in Wisconsin to hold a jury trial during the COVID-19 era and implemented several precautions to keep participants and the public safer from the pandemic.

Judge John Anderson’s recent win of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Judge of the Year award put his work at Bayfield County Circuit Court in the spotlight, but don’t ask the judge to take all the credit for the honor — it’s a team effort, he says.

“I happen to live and work in the best county in the state,” Anderson said. “Any recognition isn’t about me, it’s about we.”
