When I was in elementary school, I was taught the same Thanksgiving story that most kids my generation learned.

We cut pilgrim hats out of black construction paper, and Indian headbands and feathers out of brown and red paper, and did little skits about how the friendly and helpful but hopelessly primitive Natives helped the European settlers survive a tough winter with gifts of corn and … well, corn. That’s all I remember, anyway.
