The Ashland girls tennis team's five state qualifiers, (from left) Maddie Clevette, Abby Davidson, Taylor Vyskocil, Mara Pierce and Kalli Mikkonen stand together at practice Tuesday in the AHS Field House. The WIAA Division 2 state meet begins Thursday afternoon in Madison.

The Ashland High School girls tennis team has fared quite well this season, and with five girls on their way to the state tournament, it's hard to imagine head coach Betty Erickson could have hoped for better in her first year on the job in place of longtime coach Bob Graf.

"It's not just me, and it's actually just a privilege to do that this year," Erickson said. "It's an amazing group of girls and Bob is just a huge supporter. Even when he wasn't with us as much this year, he set this up for this to happen this year, so I just filled in his spot and we made it work and had a great time doing it. The girls are like a little family and get along amazingly well and we have a lot of fun together."
