Department of Natural Resources avian ecologist Sumner Matteson observes another endangered species, the Piping Plover, on Long Island.


Restoration work on the Ashland Tern Island completed in 2019 is credited with helping Wisconsin to record 510 common tern chick hatchings in 2020.


Tern Island in Chequamegon Bay is an important factor in the continued survival of common terns in Lake Superior, producing 36% of the state’s new hatchlings of the state endangered species.
