East End park 1

East End resident Neil Hulmer stands next to an old set of swings and the abandoned tennis courts at Ashland’s East End Park on Fifth Street East. Residents have been invited to the park on Saturday to talk about how the city should address its shortcomings.

Ashland’s East End Park on Fifth Street East once was very popular with the people who live in the vicinity, with kids scrambling over monkey bars and launching themselves off swing sets.

Neil Hulmer, who moved into the neighborhood in the 1980s, recalls the park as a busy place both winter and summer with its ice-skating rink, playground equipment and tennis courts.
