Police and fire commission

Members of the Ashland Police and Fire Commission Monday dismissed a citizen complaint filed by former police Officer Brandon Barnes alleging that he was struck in the face by a training officer, Sgt. Gerald Randall. The dismissal came upon the request of Barnes that the matter be dropped by the commission.

Accusations that one Ashland Police officer struck another while training him and that the chief condoned that training method will not be resolved for at least another month.

The Ashland Police and Fire Commission reluctantly postponed a Friday-evening hearing into the matter after attorneys representing former officer Brandon Barnes, and his training officer, Sgt. Gerard Randall, said they were working on a deal that would resolve the issue.
