The city council redistricting plan approved Tuesday cuts the council from 11 members to nine.

The Ashland City Council will shrink from 11 to nine members under a redistricting plan approved by the council Tuesday night.

Redistricting is done every 10 years using data collected by the U.S. Census that is used to create boundaries that are of similar population to satisfy constitutional requirements. The plan adopted by the council eliminates one council position fewer than a plan recommended by an ad hoc redistricting committee.
