More than 82,000 children in Wisconsin don't have reliable internet access at home. That's put them at a disadvantage as school, play dates, clubs and other activities have moved mostly online during a time when many have been asked to stay home to minimize coronavirus transmission.

A Wisconsin Policy Forum analysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau and a state Department of Public Instruction survey found racial disparities in internet access, as well. Statewide, 5.8% of all residents are without internet access, but it climbs to 13.6% for black residents and 8.3% for Latino residents.
