John William Moran, 72, of Iron River passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 at his home in Ashland, WI. He was born on October 28, 1946 in Ashland, the son of Joseph and Juanita (Fuhrmann) Moran.
John graduated from Columbia High School in Iron River, WI in 1963. He married Gloria K. Carlson February 13, 1971 in Poplar, WI. John worked for Fuhrmann’s South Shore Dairy for a several years as a truck driver and cheese maker. He also was employed as a janitor at Iron River Elementary for a time. John was a painter at the Fraser Shipyards in Superior, WI for 9 ½ years. In 1982 he began his career as a self-employed driver for the Duluth News Tribune, doing that until his retirement in 2007. One of his biggest joys growing up was racing horses at various fairgrounds throughout the summer. Later on in his life he enjoyed helping June Benson, of Mason, with her pony ring for fairs and festivals throughout the area. He enjoyed swimming, his model train set, and watching rodeos and the Green Bay Packers on television.
John is survived by a daughter, Jeanne (Steve) Denston of South Range, WI; 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Corrina, Olivia, and Talon; a sister, Sandy (Warren) Wicklund of Andover, MN; nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend, Karen Ovaska of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph O. Moran; and a sister, Nancy J. McLean.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Iron River Community Center on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 1 p.m.
The Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland is assisting the family with arrangements.
