John R. Yachinich

John R. Yachinich, 81, of Ashland passed away surrounded by family Monday, August 26, 2019. He was born June 21, 1938 in Hibbing, MN, the son of Joe and Ann Yachinich.

In 1956, John graduated from Ondossagon High School. On January 31, 1959 he married his beloved wife, Harriet Morrison, in Ashland. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps. John owned and operated Johnson’s Flower Shop and Mr. John’s Bar in Ashland. He was a member of the Rod & Gun Club and the Ashland Elks Lodge.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His hobbies included golfing, trap shooting, fishing, and hunting with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed playing sports in his earlier years and truly loved the game of baseball. Pa Yach, as he was known to many, had a great gift of gab. His hunting stories may have changed from year to year, but he sure had many to share. He cherished his time with family and was a very proud grandpa!

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Harriet; sister Margaret ‘Peggy’ (Bob) Wepner of Door County, WI; children Joseph (Tammy) of Ashland, John (Deb Guerin) of Ashland, Jane (Tom) Fisher of Green Bay, Judy (Scott) Collard of Manitowoc, Jerry (Deb) of Ashland, Jean (Paul) VanLaarhoven of De Pere; grandchildren Gina & Jessica Crowe, Allison Collard, Lindsey (Ryan) Larson & Nathan Fisher, Emily & Eric Yachinich, Madison Yachinich, and Ethan (Tara), Payton & Trenton VanLaarhoven; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with Father Joseph Kumar Mayakuntla, O.F.M. officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 on Saturday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family.
