Gerald C. Christie, 78, of Mellen, WI passed away Friday, Aug 16, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his beloved family. Gerald was born Feb 24, 1941 in Ashland, WI, the son of Wilmot and Claire (Kurrasch) Christie.
Gerald spent most of his life in Superior and Mellen, WI. He graduated from Mellen High School, class of 1959, followed by bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He was an educator, spending nearly 30 years with the Superior School District, retiring in 1997. After retirement, Gerald volunteered at the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN and was an active member of the Mellen Lions Club. He was elected to the Mellen School Board, following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Chester, who served as Mellen’s city clerk for nearly 40 years. On Aug 12, 1967 Gerald was united in marriage to Jane C. Nelson at Zion Lutheran Church in Superior and recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Mellen; five children, Jessica (Chad) Christie-Kapellusch of Racine, WI, Erica (Mark Tess) Christie of Merrimack, NH, Jeremy (Jennifer) Christie of Chippewa Falls, WI, Joshua Christie of Honolulu, HI and Elizabeth (Luke) Jadwin of Altura, MN; seven grandchildren, Connor & Carter Tess, Grace, Nolan & Aaron Christie, Lily & Emma Jadwin; brother, Robert Christie of New Berlin, WI as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claire in 2014 and Wilmot in 2016.
A memorial service for Gerald will be held on Saturday, Aug 24, 2019 at the Mellen United Congregational Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Donald Quigley officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Church in Mellen on Saturday and continue until the hour of service.
Interment will take place in the Mellen Union Cemetery following the service.
Should family and friends desire, memorials can be made to the Building Fund of the Mellen United Congregational Church of Christ or a charity of their choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Mellen and Ashland, WI.
