Elizabeth A. Parent

Elizabeth “Bettie” A. Parent, 90, of Ashland, WI passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. Bettie was born June 26, 1929 in Ashland the daughter of Frank and Mary (Vosmek) Poyer.

On July 5, 1952, Bettie was united in marriage to Elman A. Parent in Ashland. We lost dad in 1980 to heart disease. In 1995 Bettie was fortunate to meet another special man in her life. Larry and Mom spent over 20 years together – dancing, playing cards with friends and bringing each other much joy.

Bettie was a graduate of De Padua High School in 1947. Professionally, she taught at Head Start for over 25 years and touched the hearts and minds of so many children. Her legacy to these kids brought her many high school graduation and wedding invitations from her former 4-year-old students.

Her talent in painting was a major joy to her and her amazing works can be viewed at MMC and in many homes throughout the area. She was a very gifted lady behind a paintbrush.

Bettie loved being with her family. One of her greatest joys was becoming a grandma with the birth of her first grandson in 1990. She idolized her grandchildren, and when 3 great-grandchildren came into her life her heart grew even more. They were the “twinkle” in her eye and she loved to sit back and just watch them.

She volunteered many hours at the Bargain Hut in Ashland and held many positions in the Ashland VFW Auxiliary. She was the Queen of cribbage, hosting a club at the Senior Center for 25 years. This amazing lady we all called Bettie was filled with love and was a true “Bohunk” through-and-through. She had a smile for everyone and yet was strong and fierce like a lioness (really a big pussycat). She had a huge heart and could never say no, hence her joining committees, volunteering for many organizations and just being there when needed.

Survivors include her son, Michael “Mick” (Jen) Parent of Bayfield; daughter, Cheri (David) Bruch of Ashland; grandchildren, Zach, Kurt, Josh (Alyssa) & Sammy; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Sophia & McKenzie; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elman on Oct 17, 1980; daughter, Deb; sisters, Mary Jane, Marge & Patricia; and special friend, Larry.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bettie will be celebrated at 12:00 on Friday, Oct 4, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with Father Jerome D’Souza as Celebrant.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 on Friday at the Church in Ashland and continue until the hour of service.

Interment will take place in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland.

Memorials are preferred to the Enrichment Center/Bargain Hut in Ashland.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
