Cleanup works

Ashland Landlord Ron Pajac replaces a ceiling on a rental unit at a residence on Saint Claire Street in Ashland. He is among the property owners who appreciate the non-confrontational approach being used by the city’s property maintenance specialist.

In 2017, Ashland property inspectors were able to clear 53 cases of owners who weren't maintaining their homes or apartments properly.

This year, that number has leapt to 1,763 cases with more than a month left in the year.

The city and and landlords attribute the increase to a new attitude at City Hall and a new willingness on the part of owners to work with the city rather than fight it.

Read all about how the transformation happened in Saturday's print edition of the Ashland Daily Press.
