The Chequamegon Food Co-op will award micro-loans to select local businesses in September. The program is a revolving loan fund for local food-producers and product-makers that aims to support and grow the regional farming and food-processing economy, along with increasing the amount of locally, sustainably produced products.
Local farmers and value-added food producers are invited to apply. Makers of non-food-related products who have been established as a business for at least 12 months also are eligible. Applicants can apply for funding in one of the following categories:
- Category 1: Loans greater than $2,500 and up to a maximum of $5,000 with a three-year payback
- Category 2: Loans at or below $2,500 with a two-year payback
The fall 2019 deadline has been extended. Loan applications are due Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. The Co-op will choose loan recipients from the pool of applicants by Nov. 1. The total amount of funds awarded will be determined by the overall quality of applications.
Micro-loan applications are available at the Co-op or online at chequamegonfoodcoop.com/co-op/community. To learn more about the Chequamegon Food Co-op micro-loan program, please contact Kiersten, general co-manager, at (715) 682-8251 or email@example.com.
