Michael D. Herlevi, 70, of Sterling Heights, MI passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2019 at the Troy Beaumont Hospital in Troy, MI.

Michael was born in Green Bay on January 6, 1949. He attended Grand View Elementary School and graduated from Drummond High in 1967. He received a B.S. Degree in Physical Education and History at Wisconsin State University Superior in 1971 where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.

He taught and coached in Drummond High School for several years, and also worked at CESA, before moving to the Detroit, MI area in 1979. There he was employed as a Contract Specialist with the US Army Tank Automotive Command. He joined the Naval Reserves as an Intelligence Specialist in 1981 and was stationed for several months in Stuttgart, Germany in 2003 in support of Operation Noble Eagle.

Michael married Marsha Kuhlman in Gothenburg, NE in November 1983. Michael retired from the Navy in 2007 as a Lieutenant Commander. He retired from government civil service after 33 years of service in December 2011. During his retirement he enjoyed, golfing, bowling, reading and following various sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marsha; and one daughter, Morgan, both of Sterling Heights, MI. Also surviving Michael are his brothers, Joel Herlevi, Grand View, and Peter Herlevi (Brenda), Ashland; father and mother-in-law Willard and Marjorie Kuhlman, Gothenburg, NE; brothers-in-law Kirk Kuhlman (Loretta), Wichita, KS and Phil Kuhlman (Bertha) Gothenburg, NE; aunts Pat Nelson, Hudson, MN, and Sharon Bonneville, Ashland; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eino and Phyllis Herlevi; an infant sister, Patricia; and mother-in-law Della Kuhlman.

The funeral service will be held in the Grand View Methodist Church, Wednesday, July 24 at 11:00. Lunch to follow at the Grand View Town Hall.
