Mabel D. Jellish, 99, of Ashland, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Ashland Health Services. Mabel was born on October 7, 1919 in Grand View, WI, the daughter of Helge and Milly (Silvig) Gunderson.
Mabel maintained over 100 rose bushes in years past and regularly gave them to people for weddings, funerals and just for home or office display. In early 2000, she received Ashland’s annual beautification award for her amazing flower garden. Many mornings she could be seen at 4 a.m. weeding and fertilizing her flowers. In her later years, Faith in Action volunteers raked her leaves in the fall, snow blowed her sidewalks in the winter and did various jobs to maintain her garden and flowers. Mabel loved to cook and could muster up a 7-course meal she had precooked from her freezer and/or refrigerator in minutes. But nothing was more important than playing games with her grandchildren or a good game of cribbage. She loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
Mabel is survived by her son, James (Gwen) Jellish; grandchildren, Michael Jellish, Jane Norman, Mandy (Jordan) Zimmermann, Pam Le Plavy, Jenny (Dave) Vanden Heuvel and Ross Gordon; great-grandchildren, Jack Norman, Devin Jellish, Michaela (DJ) Hungerford, Cori Lang, Cassidy Vanden Heuvel, Riley and Ava Zimmermann; great-great-grandchild, Beckham Hungerford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Jellish; parents; son, Gary Jellish; brother, Ted Gunderson; sisters, Helen, Dorthy and Marilyn Gunderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mabel will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Thursday, Aug 1, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with Father Jerome D’Souza as Celebrant.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church and continue until the hour of service.
