Age 85, Charles H. Raths (Chuck), homeowner in Cable, WI, died peacefully April 19, 2020 in Nashville, TN. Chuck enjoyed some 17 summers in the area at the house he designed and built on Diamond Lake. Survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor L. Raths, children, grandchildren, and younger brothers he will long be remembered for his strong values such as a keen sense of ambition and fairness as well as a high regard for acting independently and responsibly. Chuck walked the talk by founding a one-man structural engineering consulting company at age 32. He developed that seed into the revered firm of Raths, Raths, & Johnson, Inc. by successfully establishing himself as a foremost authority on design and materials in concrete structures in the United States. Current RRJ president Kurt Hoigard observed: "Chuck was not only the founder, he was a mentor to me and many others. He provided the leadership and vision that shaped RRJ into a leading forensic engineering and architectural firm." His future wife, Ellie, first noticed his “big brown eyes” in a classroom at East Aurora High School (NY). Little did she then know, they would be wed in the town church August 24, 1957. They wound up moving to Hinsdale, IL, where they raised their children and many dachshunds, and Chuck pursued his profession. Upon retirement they wintered in Nashville and enjoyed many summers in Northern Wisconsin. We’ll miss you, Dad! We see the very best of you in your grandchildren and are grateful for your presence in all of our lives. A private service in East Aurora is planned; memorials appreciated to PCI Foundation “Charles Raths Memorial”, c/o Manietta Associates, 1770 N. Park Street, #103 Naperville IL 60563.
