Debra Kay Rusch

Debra Kay Rusch passed away peacefully on 11/2/2019 at the age of 68 in Ashland, WI.

Deb was born June 30th, 1951 in Manitowoc, WI to Otto and Dorothy (Krueger) Rusch. She enjoyed spending time in Brillion with family throughout her younger years on her parents’ and grandparent’s farm. At the age of four, her family relocated from Brillion to Waupaca, WI where she graduated from high school. Deb always enjoyed going back to that area to visit friends and get out boating on The Waupaca Chain O’Lakes. In the late 1970s Deb followed her family to Washburn, WI where she spent most of her adult life. She loved the beauty of the big lake and time spent with family and friends visiting the surrounding islands.

Deb attended the University of Superior where she achieved a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a minor in Art therapy. Her passion was truly in Art and she enjoyed many years weaving and crafting. She was fond of blues music and loved getting out to see live shows and dance. She was also a wonderful cook and was known for her green thumb.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Dorothy Rusch, mother-in-law Karen Ann Smith. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Smith, three children Adam Rosenthal, Aaron Rosenthal (Rebecca), and Amelia Rosenthal as well as six grandchildren Summer, Samantha, D’Nali, Maxwell, Nick and Connor, two great grandchildren Marley and Kason, five siblings Dale Rusch (Karen), Rhonda Keyser-Rusch(Tom Keyser), Randall Rusch (Teresa), Raelyn Pearson(David), and Richard Rusch, father-in-law James Smith, brother and sister in-laws Randy Smith, Kenny Smith, Laurie Smith, and Darren Smith (Bobann), and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be at 4 pm on Friday November 8, 2019, at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn, WI. A service will follow the visitation at 5 officiated by Pastor Nancy Hansen. After the service you are invited to join the family in a celebration of Deb’s life at the Harbor View Event center in Washburn.
