The fragrance of lilacs in May invokes memories for the author, some sweet, some poignant, amid the new life of spring.
Sweet smells. Moving memories. Spring in full blossom. Summer coming on.
On a morning in May the lilacs seemed to have blossomed at first light as if coaxed by the mourning dove’s cooing to share their purple sweetness. Or perhaps it was Cassiopeia the Queen last night who told syringa vulgaris it was time.
